Your Guide to North Hollywood's Top 6 Annual Festivals and Events
North Hollywood is a neighborhood of 37,000 residents in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. The entertainment industry is big here, as is the arts scene in the NoHo Arts District. With the arrival of the Pacific Electric Railway in the early 20th century, the neighborhood became a commerce hub and grew from there. Today, this urban center bustles with activity and is home to residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
The area has a rich cultural scene, too, and hosts a variety of events throughout the year that you can enjoy whether you’re a local or a tourist. Here’s our guide to North Hollywood’s annual festivals and events.
- NoHo Summer Nights
Not much can beat a good free movie or concert! If that sounds fun, and you're in North Hollywood during the summer, check out the NoHo Summer Nights festival. Throughout the summer, the event features outdoor concerts, food trucks, and more every Saturday evening in July and August. And yes, admission is free.
The concerts highlight various musical genres, including rock, jazz, blues, and Latin music. Concerts begin at 7:00, and movies begin at approximately 7:30. Where? Each Summer Nights event, put on by the Valley Cultural Foundation, takes place at the corner of Magnolia and Tujunga, next to the Amelia Earhart Library.
- North Hollywood Arts District Farmers Market
Let's step away from seasonal events for a moment to visit The North Hollywood Arts District Farmers Market, which takes place every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Here, in the heart of the Arts District, locals and visitors come together to enjoy fresh produce, homemade goods, and artisanal crafts. Visitors can browse vendors offering everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to handmade soaps and candles, plus jewelry, clothing, and artwork. This is also a fantastic place to enjoy live music and food truck fare. Plus, you'll be supporting local businesses and farmers while enjoying a fun community event.
- NoHo Pride Festival
The Noho Pride Festival usually takes place in June, which is Annal Pride Month. But in 2023 it's scheduled for May, so in subsequent years, check the website if you'd like to attend, or participate! The Pride Festival celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and features many activities, including live music performances, drag shows, food and drink vendors, and a range of booths and exhibits featuring local businesses, organizations, and artists. You'll discover a warm and inclusive atmosphere, welcoming people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, and backgrounds.
- Hollywood Fringe Festival
Begun in 2011, the Hollywood Fringe Festival, also called the NoHo Fringe Festival, is an annual showcase of performing arts in the NoHo Arts District. It features a wide-ranging lineup of performers and artists, which include theater companies, dance troupes, comedians, musicians, and spoken word performers. Established and new performers get to showcase their acting chops. The Fringe Festival takes place over several weeks in June and July at multiple venues throughout North Hollywood, including theaters, galleries, and outdoor spaces, making it a true community event.
- Valley Film Festival
If you enjoy independent cinema and art films, then the Valley Film Festival is an annual event you won't want to miss. Since its inception in 2001, it has become a major cultural event for the San Fernando Valley area, showcasing films by up-and-coming filmmakers. It also features panels and workshops with industry professionals, something film buffs love. The festival takes place for a week each November and highlights various movies, including features, shorts, documentaries, and animations. One of the goals of the Valley Film Festival is to promote the San Fernando Valley as a filmmaking hub, with networking opportunities for filmmakers.
- NoHo Cinema Fest
Looking for another film festival? Well, we've got one. This is the Hollywood area, after all! The NoHo Cinema Fest takes place in late September and features independent films, shorts, and documentaries from domestic and international filmmakers. The featured films cover a range of genres, including drama, comedy, horror, and experimental, and it gives both emerging and established filmmakers a platform to showcase their work and connect with audiences, critics, and industry professionals.
