“It was built in 2002, but you can’t even tell it’s more than 15 years old,” said Harold. “We recently did a couple of renovations and some painting. We try to keep it looking really nice.”

The facility is spread across three floors and totals 734 units. Each and every unit has its own individual door alarm.

“All our doors are locked and must be opened with an access code,” explained Harold. “We have a system that tells us who has come in and who has left whenever the doors are open or shut. We have 24-hour surveillance as well.”

There are multiple elevators to access the economically priced units on the top floor and flat bed carts available at every entrance to make sure that customers have what they need to move in or out with ease. In addition, the facility has 12-15 foot high ceilings, making it convenient to move and store large or oddly shaped items.

“We have tall ceilings, and some of the best access hours,” said Harold. “Access hours are from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. A lot of other facilities’ hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. making us the facility with the longest access hours in the area."

In addition to the storage units themselves, this facility also makes sure its customers have access to purchase other items that can easily be forgotten in a hectic move.

“We are a one-stop shop. You can get storage here. If you haven't packed or prepared, we have about everything you would need for moving and storage. Our most popular item would be the mattress covers customers use those to protect all sorts of items. Even better, if you buy 10 or more items you get 25% off.”

The neighborhood is also growing rapidly, possibly due to the construction of a trolley station nearby. While some businesses have left, Harold says that it hasn’t affected his location much and A-1 Self Storage will continue to maintain its presence on Morena Blvd.

“In the end, the trolley being right there will probably help. It’s a very scenic way to go through San Diego. It is pretty nice because it takes you pretty much everywhere.”
